OLD TRADES
In the Valtiberina the ancient trades, arts and artisans
have survived and feature a long tradition which still represent
an important voice for the local economy. When in other parts the
techniques have been forgotten due to the industrialisation, here
in the Valtiberina the tradition goes from father to son and the
artisans are able to make real masterpieces.

The
Art Institutes in Sansepolcro and Anghiari contribute to the education
of the young people who are following the artisan tradition keeping
alive the workshops. In the Valtiberina you can find marvellous unique
artworks, from jewels to furniture. The gold-works dominates in Sansepolcro
thanks to the tradition and the famous "Biennale Orafa".
The lace-works also represent masterpieces, which can be seen during
the "Biennale del Merletto". The ceramics are also part
of this tradition, while in Anghiari the main activity is the wooden
handicraft. Wicker and stone-works made by talented sculptors are
very common in Caprese.
