SAN GODENZO
San Godenzo meets the visitor with the elegant Palazzo dei
Conti Guidi which faces the main square of the village. Not far
away you find the marvellous Badia di San Godenzo founded before
813 and raised by the Benedictine monks who depended to the Diocese
of Fiesole until 1482, when the monks serving the Santissima Annunziata
church in Florence took over.

Inside,
in the ancient apse, there is a fine mosaic by Giuseppe Cassioli from
1929, while the altar in the main crypt from the XII century hosts
a polyptych of the Maddona with Child and the Four Saints.
Along the road that goes to Dicomano, at San Bavello, you find the
Romanesque Pieve San Babila from year 1000, with a sober stone façade.
Castagno dAndrea is located in the territory of San Godenzo,
but is inside the border of the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Caseninesi.
Famous for being the hometown of the painter Andrea del Castagno,
today Castagno dAndrea is a pleasant holiday resort from which
depart many trails for the Monte Falterona, Capo dArno, Campigna
and Camaldoli, in the Park. Among all the itineraries departing from
Castagno dAndrea, we would like to underscore the one to the
waterfalls Cascata dellAcquacheta, close to San Benedetto in
Alpe. At the confluence of the river Troncalosso and Acquacheta the
water makes a jump of more than 130 metres and in the surroundings
you find vast green areas.
