RUFINA
In the historical centre of Rufina you should absolutely
visit the marvellous Villa di Poggio Reale, built at the end of
the 16th century with a plant in Michelangelo-style and restructured
in the 18th century, when the cellars were added. Today it hosts
the Museo della Vite e il Vino and the Wine-shop of il Chianti Rufina
and Pomino. In the surroundings of Rufina it is worth to see the
Castello di Pomino, a villa from the 16th century embellished with
a loggia attributed to Bartolomeo Ammannati.
|
|
| Today
the castle has partly been transformed into a luxurious villa and
partly into a wine-cellar for the production of the Pomino Doc, and
belongs to the Frescobaldi family. The Pieve di San Bartolomeo at
Pomino is also beautiful, built in the XII century in a Romanesque
style with and next to it a bell-tower from the beginning of the 13th
century. Still in the area of Rufina you find the Villa I Busini,
originally from the 15th century and with a beautiful Italian garden,
and the Oratorio di Ruggiano which, according to the legend, was built
where the icon of the Madonna was found. Among the most unique festivals
of Rufina we can mention the Bacco Artigiano, held from the last Thursday
in September to sunday in order to celebrate the typical local products,
especially the wines and the handicraft. The last Saturday in September
Rufina celebrates the Benedizone del Vino (the Wine Blessing). The
historical procession with the wine producers walk along the streets
of Florence with the Carro Matto, the Mad Cart, ( a typical cart with
more than 2000 flasks of Chianti Rufina pulled by oxen), from the
square of Santa Croce to Piazza Signoria , in order to offer "blessed"
wine to the Signoria of Florence in the name of an ancient tradition.
