TYPICAL PRODUCTS
The typical products of the Valdisieve are the products coming
from the farmed land, as is understandable due to the breeding areas
and the many farms. The Strada dei Vini Rufina e Pomino wind all
around the territory wherethe wines Chianti Rufina Docg and Pomino
Doc are produced. These two wines, with different characteristics,
have been produced and appreciated for centuries. By visiting the
vineyards, you will also see the beauties of the areas around Pontassieve,
Pelago, Rufina, Londa and Dicomano.

The
Strada dei Vini Colli Fiorentini partly crosses the territory of the
Valdisieve, touching the municipalities of Pelago, Pontassieve and
Reggello. The Chianti Colli Fiorentini is an area with a wine production
identified since 1932 and covers hills which have always returned
excellent wines. The brand that recognises the wine-producers associated
to the Consorzio is the lion of the tower of Palazzo Vecchio, symbolically
united to the bottles of the Colli Fiorentini. The hillsaof the Valdisieve
also produce an excellent extra virgin olive oil, both for its taste
and for its nutritive characteristics. The different types of beans
of Valdisive are also delicious. Around Florence the farmers have
always grown chick-peas, both chick-peas "nostrali", with
a delicate taste, and the pink chick-pea which is smaller and pink.
On the sunny hills between Dicomano and Londa the farmers grow
the Peach Regina di Londa, with white pulp and nice taste, which matures
quite late, so late that you can only buy it in late September. San
Godenzo and Castagno d'Andrea, at the border to the Parco Nazionale
delle Foreste Casentinesi, are areas covered with marvellous chestnut
forests. In this part of the Valdisieve you find the chestnuts, which
in some of the villages have obtained the brand I.G.P. Marrone del
Mugello. Among the cold cuts we have to mention the "bardicchio",
a type of sausage with parts of the pork and wild fennel. The best
way to appreciate the strong taste of the sausage is to grill it and
eat it with a local red wine. The "finocchiona", is also
excellent, a salami prepared with pork meat and fennel. Do not miss
the local honey and the cheeses, among which we can underscore the
pecorino, the yougurt and the ricotta cheese.
