SINALUNGA
The road that leads to Montepulciano goes through Sinalunga,
located on a hill in the western area of the Valdichiana. In the
historical centre you can visit the Palazzo Pretorio and the Collegiata
church, which features precious artworks. The zoologist Ezio Marchi,
the inventor of the Chianina race, was born here in the 19th century.

countryside around Sinalunga also produces, apart from meat from the
famous Chianina cows, oil and wine, such as the wines Chianti dei
Colli Senesi and Bianco Vergine della Valdichiana. If you continue
towards Montepulciano you should stop at Torrita di Siena,
a agricultural village which preserves the remains of the fortified
walls and nice old churches. The brand with three corn-ears held by
a lion in the armorial coat indicates the quality of the local oil,
wine and wheat. Torrita di Siena produces an excellent wine called
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and meat from the Chianina cow |
