LUCIGNANO
Lucignano is a charming elliptic-shaped medieval village
with many narrow streets. The heart of the village is concentrated
around the Collegiata di San Michele, which you reach by a marvellous
stairway.

|
| The
Museo Comunale of Lucignano, located in the Palazzo Comunale, houses
precious paintings from the Sienese school between the 14th and the
15th century and St. Francis' tree, which is a monumental relic in
golden copper, crystal and coral, started in 1350 and finished in
1471. It is worth to make a stop at the Chiesa di San Francesco, with
a Romanesque polychrome façade with a beautiful Gothic portal.
Not far from the centre of Lucignano you find the Fortezza Medicea
and the Santuario della Madonna delle Querce, a building from the
second part of the 16th century by Vasari. |
