LUCIGNANO

Lucignano is a charming elliptic-shaped medieval village with many narrow streets. The heart of the village is concentrated around the Collegiata di San Michele, which you reach by a marvellous stairway.
The Museo Comunale of Lucignano, located in the Palazzo Comunale, houses precious paintings from the Sienese school between the 14th and the 15th century and St. Francis' tree, which is a monumental relic in golden copper, crystal and coral, started in 1350 and finished in 1471. It is worth to make a stop at the Chiesa di San Francesco, with a Romanesque polychrome façade with a beautiful Gothic portal. Not far from the centre of Lucignano you find the Fortezza Medicea and the Santuario della Madonna delle Querce, a building from the second part of the 16th century by Vasari.
