CHIANCIANO TERME
From Montepulciano you go to Chianciano Terme, a resort
famous for its healthy water and important spas. There are actually
four springs in the area of Chianciano: Acqua Santa, which water
features a temperature around 33°c, Acqua Fucoli, 16.5°c,
Acqua Sillene, 38°c and Acqua Sant'Elena, a cold water low in
mineral content.

|
| Though
the springs and the importance of the water of Chianciano were known
since the Etruscan and Roman periods, who used it to treat liver diseases,
the development of the spas only dates back to the beginning of the
20th century. The buildings, the elegant shops, the spas and the gardens
were all built during this period. Chianciano features the Spa of
Fonti, the Spa of Fucoli, the Spa of Acqua Santa where you can get
any specialised water treatment. In the historical centre you can
admire the Palazzo del Podestà and the Romanesque Collegiata
church di San Giovanni, the Museo della Collegiata church, with furnishing,
gold-works, vestments and paintings from the Sienese and Florentine
schools from the 14th and 15th century. The Museo Civico Archeologico
delle Acque was recently inaugurated which features findings from
the area. Chianciano is also famous for the high-quality liquors.
