PONTEDERA
The other main industrial business is the scooter. The company
Piaggio started its factory here in 1923, and the Italian myth of
the economic boom, the Vespa, was put on the market in 1946.
|
|
| The
Museo della Piaggio was inaugurated the 29th of March in 2000 to celebrate
the splendour of the scooter industry. The museum is housed in one
of the oldest sheds of the company. It was Giovanni Alberto Agnelli
who came up with the idea of a museum and it was designed by Andrea
Bruno in order to preserve the historical memory of one of the most
important metal and mechanical companies in the central and south
of Italy. The modern premises, with multimedia projections, features
the most famous models of the Vespa, mythical motorbikes such as the
models Si and Ciao, the Galera collection and many other unique items. |
