Casole d'Elsa is a village which preserves the medieval boundary
wall and the two main gates, called Porta ai Frati and Porta ai
Rivellino. Close to the Porta ai Rivellino you find the Sienese
fortress, today the town hall. Also see the Collegiata di Santa
Maria Assunta which features a Cenotaph of Betramo Alighieri, a
Gothic masterpiece by Marco Romano.
In
the rectory, built between the XIV and the X century, you find the
Museo della Collegiata with paintings, gold-works, furnishings and
vestments apart from archaeological remains in the Etruscan section.
Visit the Romanesque church San Niccolò close to Casole.
