INTRODUCTION
During the last decades the plains around Florence have experienced
a great expansion due to the construction of factories and residential
areas. Today the plains of Florence host leather -, house goods
-, and chemical factories.
|
|
| The
artisan activities are also lively and the manufacturing tradition
of ancient origins continues in modern establishments and with brand
new techniques. The industrial areas around Florence manufacture clothes,
bricks, colours, furniture and tinned food. Many other services have
flourished thanks to the industrial development: a big part of the
tertiary sector is concentrated in the plains around Florence to support
the industrial and artisan activities. During the last few years the
commercial activity has increased thanks to the construction of commercial
centres. But some of the cities of the Florentine plain still preserve
precious monuments from the past: churches, parish churches, palaces
and villas live together with modern industrial establishments and
big commercial centres. |
