HILLS >> LUNIGIANA

LE TERME

Lunigiana also features many spas which entertained the ancient inhabitants of the area. The most important centre is Eque Terme which is located in the northern part of the Apuane Alps. The sulphurous mineral water which bubbles naturally from its spring has an exceptional therapeutic property and is used to treat respiratory and skin diseases, and diseases such as rheumatics and arthrosis. Apart from the indoor spas, where you find specialised physicians, you can also go trekking in the forests which surround Equi Terme, where you find several natural springs with water at a temperature of 27°c..
In the surroundings you also find interesting archaeological sites such as the Caverna della Tecchia where the archaeologists have found bear bones in the caves and some items from the Palaeolithic period. From Equi Terme departs the road that goes along the so-called “Solco”, a natural canyon formed by the river which has eroded the sides of the mountain.
