MULAZZO
Mulazzo is the book-centre in Lunigiana. Most of the ambulant
book-sellers started here to then visit the whole Italy and the
most famous book-sellers come from this little village in Lunigiana.
You have to stop at the Madonna del Monte from where you can enjoy
a great view over Lunigiana until the seaside. At Mulazzo you find
remains of the Castle of the Malaspina family, the ruins of the
Byzantine tower, many small palaces and the beautiful Chiesa di
San Martino which only preserves the external walls and the columns,
contributing to the fascinating scene in the middle of the green
forest. In September, Mulazzo hosts the Bancarelvino award, a wine
market with cultural events and wine tasting.

Not
far from Mulazzo you have to see Groppoli, a Ligurian corner
in Lunigiana, where the castle, the villa and the church were commissioned
by the Brignoli family from Genoa and designed by Matteo Vinzoni.
Do not miss the village of Lusuolo, a typical example of settlement
in Lunigiana, with the terraces-threshing floor of the houses facing
the only street. The castle of Luosolo features a marvellous courtyard
and an intact tower. The architecture as you see it today dates back
to the 17th century, as the castle was destroyed several times due
to its strategic position. It will soon house a laboratory for book
restauration.
