RADICONDOLI
Radicondoli is a pleasant hill town which became an important
fortification for the underlying valleys in the IX century.
|
|
| Today
there are only some remains of the primitive fortification and only
one of the three gates, the so-called Porta della Olla, is still left.
Lambs and cows are breed in the pastures around Radicondoli. Wheat
and many vegetables are cultivated, while the forests are exploited
for the wood and the chestnuts. Have a look at the Castello di Montingegnoli,
with its characteristic semi-circle around the courtyard which is
surrounded by charming houses. A parish Romanesque church and a tower
are also part of the Castle. Not much is left of the Castello di Elci,
which were destroyed several times by the Sienese . The Chiesa di
Santa Maria a Belforte, an old Romanesque building which preserves
many signs of its primitive nave, is worth a visit. At Le Pianacce,
not far from the centre of Radicondoli, you find a geothermic central
which can be visited for free. |
