STIA
At the feet of the Monte Falterona, Stia preserves the medieval
atmosphere in the streets around the main square. The village is
famous for the wool manufacturing, a tradition which goes back to
the 19th century when the biggest wool factory in Tuscany was located
here. Still today Stia produces the famous Casentine "cloth".

| Apart
from the Piazza Tanucci, you should visit the Pieve di Santa Maria
Assunta, built in the 12th century and modified during the centuries.
The village is dominated by the majestic tower of the Castello di
Porciano, founded during the Middle Ages by the Counts Guidi, and
the sanctuary Santa Maria delle Grazie. North of the village you find
the Palazzio Fiorentino, built in the beginning of the 20th century
in a medieval style which now hosts the Museo Civico di Arte Contemporanea.
At Stia you also find the Centro Visita (the Info Point) of the Park,
dedicated to the bird fauna in the Casentino, where you can go bird-watching. |
