PRATOVECCHIO
Hometown of the painter Paolo Uccello, Pratovecchio is the
headquarter of the Parco delle Foreste Casentinesi. The castle and
the Pieve di Romena witness the importance of Pratovecchio during
the Middle Ages, when it was the shunting station for the Camaldolesian
wood going to Florence.

|
| The
Pieve di Romena, built in the 12th century on the ruins of an already
existing building, is one of the most interesting examples of Romanesque
art in the Casentino. The castle, built around the 11th century, preserves
three towers and the remains of the boundary wall which have been
restructured. In the surroundings you should visit the Abbazia di
Santa Maria at Poppiera, the Monasterio di San Giovanni Evangelista
and the Chiesa di San Romolo at Valiana. |
